A hit show from the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival!
Andrew Borden and his wife Abby are found dead in Fall River, Massachusetts, August 1892. Their daughter Lizzie is the main suspect. Tried but acquitted of the crime, the story goes that she wielded the axe that killed them. Overnight, she becomes America's original 'mad, bad and dangerous to know' icon.
Set to bluegrass music and murder ballads, this irreverently presented, knee-slapping ensemble show fuses gallows humour and vaudevillian horror.
“A clever and captivating true crime musical, Bury the Hatchet blends sharp storytelling with lively bluegrass tunes and dynamic performances. A Fringe gem that’s both thought-provoking and thoroughly entertaining. Highly recommended.”
★★★★★ “An inspired piece of theatre. This is an object lesson in how to pitch a true-crime drama – and how to hold an audience absolutely spellbound.”
★★★★ “Part courtroom drama, part folk gig, part historical whodunnit, and it works. It plays with the edges of fact and legend, letting the audience feel complicit in the myth making.”
