CYMC Musical Theatre returns with Disney’s NEWSIES The Musical for our 2022 production. This Tony Award winning musical is based on the 1992 musical film Newsies, which was inspired by the real-life Newsboys (AKA “newsies”) Strike of 1899 in New York City. The show features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman and a book by Harvey Fierstein, based on the film’s screenplay by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White. Newsies is a family-friendly crowd pleaser with all the elements of a time-honoured Disney classic musical. Audiences won’t be disappointed with this show’s rousing songs, high energy dancing, and an uplifting story that is truly inspirational.

The story: When newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer raises the cost of the newspapers, it results in a significant hardship for the young newsies, including many who are homeless or orphans. Despite the odds, the newsies band together to protest and eventually strike in a stirring modern David and Goliath story.

Disney’s Newsies The Musical is presented through special arrangements with Music Theatre International (MTI). All Authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com
