Sid Williams Theatre

Donations

The Sid Williams Theatre Society (SWTS) is a registered Canadian charitable organization and conducts fundraising for the following activities:

  • Ongoing capital improvements to the theatre building, equipment, and facilities
  • A bursary program providing educational opportunities for Comox Valley youth
  • The Superstar program providing free tickets to those in the community who would not otherwise have access to events at the theatre
  • The Endowment Fund through the Comox Valley Community Foundation providing for the theatre’s future long-term operations

A donation can be made in any amount and applied to any SWTS program of the donor’s choice. Donations can be made by individuals, groups, families, businesses, and can be paid in installments. All donations over $20 are tax deductible.

Donations can be made online at https://tickets.sidwilliamstheatre.com/.

A donation to the Sid Williams Theatre Fund with the Comox Valley Community Foundation may be made at cvcfoundation.org.

Superstar Program

Our Superstar program is an outreach program to engage individuals and groups in our community who would not otherwise have access to cultural events at the theatre. Tickets donated for the program are distributed via a number of local social service organizations when they become available.

This program is supported by donations from the public, our sponsors, foundations, and support from the Province of British Columbia Gaming Fund.

Many of our sponsors receive tickets specifically to give to the community service organization of their choice. Of course, anyone can donate to the Superstar program and specify the particular performance.

Capital Fund

Capital funding helps us to improve our physical infrastructure and technical capabilities. The ever-changing technologies that have evolved in the entertainment industry - including significant innovations in computer technology for sound, projection, lighting, and special effects - have completely changed the way artists use their creative tools, as well as the production values that audiences expect.

Funding allows the Society to purchase essential specialized equipment as part of technical upgrades to enable the theatre to compete for the best music, theatre, and dance we can offer our local community and visitors. Upgrades will meet the needs of today’s artists while improving the technical ability to present exceptional artistic and cultural performances. Improved infrastructure will provide our patrons with richer cultural experiences.

While there is some government and foundation support for equipment improvements at community cultural facilities like the Sid, most of our new equipment purchases in the last five years, including capital improvements to the building and facilities, have been thanks to generous donors.

Endowment Fund

Since 2008, the Sid Williams Theatre Society has had a legacy endowment trust fund with the Comox Valley Community Foundation (CVCF). Donations to the Sid Williams Theatre Fund not only generate needed operating revenue for the Society through interest earned, but also provide the CVCF with the necessary investment capital to support many other community programs and projects.

The Sid Williams Theatre Fund was established through a generous donation by the Vancouver Foundation through the BC Arts Renaissance Program. Matching funds from the City of Courtenay and ticket surcharges collected between 1992 and 2008 were also used to establish the Sid Williams Theatre Fund with the CVCF.

A donation to the Sid Williams Theatre Fund can be made online via CanadaHelps at cvcfoundation.org.

This is truly the gift that keeps on giving!
